Named after Robert Jones' book of lute songs from 1609,
A Musical Dreame is a collaboration between soprano Ali Hill and lutenist Yair Avidor.
The duo specializes in Elizabethan lute songs by composers such as John Dowland, John Danyel and Robert Jones, alongside 17th century songs for voice and continuo (played on the theorbo) by Henry Lawes, Robert Johnson and Henry Purcell.
This rich and evocative treasure trove contains some of the most beautiful songs in the English language, ranging in themes from love songs, metaphysical meditations on Time and Nature to songs created for the baroque stage and mad scenes.
Soprano Ali Hill, who performs regularly with ensembles such as the Monteverdi Choir, Polyphony, and her own Galan Ensemble, sings with compelling musicality and clarity of diction, her beguiling voice naturally complemented by Yair Avidor's subtle playing of song accompaniment and solo lute pieces.
